A client from Manahawkin contacted Auto Image in Brick while researching 2017 Ford Mustang GT performance upgrades. This client wanted more power, better handling and a unique look for his muscle car. We discussed the benefits and power gains available from several forced induction options before putting together a quote for an entire performance package. The client approved our plan, so we scheduled an appointment with one of our top technicians.
Forced Induction Ford Mustang GT Performance Upgrades
The stock 2017 Mustang GT is capable of producing 435 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque from its 5.0-liter engine. The Roush Performance Phase 1 supercharger kit includes an Eaton 2.3 liter roots-type supercharger, an intercooler and pump, new fuel injectors, a new intake tract, and all the supporting components to increase the engine’s power output to a stout 670 horsepower and 545 lb-ft of torque. The kit includes a new ECU calibration to ensure the system operates reliably. Roush backs the package with a three-year, 36,000-mile warranty.
The kit is well-designed and includes all the hoses, brackets and fasteners required to perform the installation. Our technician had no problems replacing the stock intake plenum with the supercharger and the integrated intercooler.
To support the new supercharger kit, we also installed a Ford Performance M-5200-M8SB cat-back exhaust system. Borla manufactures the new exhaust system for Ford, and includes an X-pipe and low-restriction mufflers to increase flow and provide an aggressive tone that sounds incredible.
Suspension Upgrade
To give the Mustang better handling and a more-aggressive stance, we installed a set of H&R S550 series Sport Springs. The new springs lower the ride height of the Mustang by 1.1 inches in the front and 1.3 inches in the rear. They have a higher spring rate to make turn-in sharper, without making the ride too harsh.
Cosmetic Enhancements
We finished off the project by installing a set of matte black racing stripes. The new stripes run the length of the vehicle and give it a sinister look. To offset the black finish, we painted the brake calipers bright-red. They pop nicely behind the 10-spoke factory wheels without being gaudy.
Complete Performance Package
The client returned to Auto Image, anxious to see the Ford Mustang GT performance upgrades we installed and take it for a drive. He loved the new look and stance, and was giddy when he finally got to mash the gas pedal to the floor.
