Hopatcong State Park

Fort Delaware State Park
For history buffs, a visit to Fort Delaware State Park is a must. The Union fortress that was built in 1859 and was home to Confederate prisoners of war is a quick half-mile ferry ride from Delaware City to Pea Patch Island. Once there you are transported back in time by guides in period costumes who show you how old-time blacksmiths made parts for the cannons, how they washed their clothes, and what the sound of gunfire was like. A day spent learning what life was like during the civil war is an adventure for the whole family.
Garden State Parkway
For a day filled with ocean views take a leisurely drive along the Garden State Parkway. You’ll see a variety of landscapes from coastal scenes to the iconic New Jersey Pine Barrens and several small towns with the opportunity to stop for lunch. For a short detour, we recommend a visit to the resort city of Atlantic City. Try your luck at a casino, enjoy the boardwalk and soak up some sun on the beach.

Cape May
When you reach the end of Parkway you’ll be in Cape May, one of the oldest vacation resort destinations in the country. Or visit the wildlife onshore and go see the Jersey Shore Alpacas or do some bird watching. A visit to the Cape May Lighthouse and the Washington Street Mall is a great way to round out the weekend.
